Background

Social Work programs from around the State of Alabama came together to establish the Higher Education Consortium on Child Welfare. The consortium members have met formally three times over the past sixteen months to agree on the scope of the consortium and how it might impact on both social work practice and the Alabama Department of Human Resources. Special consideration is being given for the recruitment and retention of qualified child welfare workers and the acquisition of alternative funding sources through the efforts of this initiative.

It was mutually agreed that the Higher Education Consortium on Child Welfare initiative would provide an arena in which issues and concerns could be explored and addressed in the spirit of collaboration.

The Higher Education Consortium on Child Welfare has voted to have The University of Alabama, School of Social Work, under contract with the Alabama Department of Human Resources administer this initiative.
