Field Education

Message from the Program Chair

Barbara Chandler

The School of Social Work provides BSW and MSW students with a program of professional education culminating in the field education experience. The field practicum provides the student with the opportunity to apply content from the classroom and instruction from the field instructor/supervisor to the delivery of social services in a practice setting.

Field placements are available throughout the State of Alabama. Second year graduate students also have the opportunity to complete field education with a placement in the Washington, DC area.

Students’ placements are made through consultation with advisors, program committees and the field education office. The field strives to provide the best learning experience for each student regardless of assigned placement.

The field experience is truly where the student sees first hand what is required to be a competent social worker.

The field education office is open to answer any questions you may have that directly relate to the field experience. Please contact us at (205) 348-5544, or email us at jrucker@sw.ua.edu.

I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you in the development of your field education experience at the University of Alabama School of Social Work.
