Howard B. Gundy Award
Established by the School of Social Work, the Howard B. Gundy Award is given to a faculty member, staff member, student or alum in recognition and appreciation of their distinguished service to the School of Social Work and to the profession of social work. This award is given at the discretion of the School.
The award is named for Dr. Howard B. Gundy, the first dean of The University of Alabama School of Social Work. He previously served as first director and first dean of the Syracuse University School of Social Work and later went to Sacramento State College (California) as the first Dean of the Social Work program. Dr. Gundy also served The University of Alabama as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting President.
**Due to postponements and cancelations brought about by COVID-19, the deadline for School of Social Work students, faculty and staff to nominate a faculty member for the award has been extended through May 1.
The Gundy Award recipient was originally scheduled to be announced during the School of Social Work’s annual Academic Awards ceremony on May 4; the Academic Awards ceremony has been moved to August 2020 (more information to follow).Submit Your Nomination
