Background and professional experience

Daphne Arnold (MSW, LICSW, PIP) has served as health coordinator for the UAB Early Head Start Program and as a psychiatric social worker for UAB’s Center for Psychiatric Medicine. Arnold is currently in her seventh year of employment as a medical social worker at UAB Civitan-SparksClinics, which provides diagnostic testing for children and adolescents. Her specified interests include increasing leadership for cultural diversity and cultural and linguistic competence in networks supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, and championing for the rights of individuals with mental illness.

Arnold aspires to transition to social work administration as well as social work education in the future. For her Capstone Project, Arnold plans to address increasing the culture diversity competency of interns, trainees, and medical residents who work with children and adolescents diagnosed or needing diagnosis for intellectual and developmental disabilities at UAB Civitan-Sparks Clinics through the utilization of the UAB Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) Facilitator Training Model.
