Background and professional experience

Yan Luo is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Alabama School of Social Work. She holds a Quantitative Research Certificate from the University of Alabama and IBM Data Science Professional Certificate.

Yan worked as a social work interna at the Temporary Emergency Services (2017) and Caring Days Adult Day Care (2019) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She also served as a volunteer at DCH Regional Medical Center and Caring Days Adult Day Care in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and American Cancer Society. Yan’s practice experience has inspired her to pursue research focusing on health equity, health informatics, as well as dementia caregiving.

Yan’s scholarship includes various publications related to health informatics use among older adults and rural health.

Yan will be teaching an in-person course, History of Social Welfare in the US, for BSW students at the University of Alabama in Fall 2021.
