Ashleigh Godby, a Distance Learner in the University of Alabama’s BSW program, is an LPN who has successfully transitioned into the field of social work.

UA social work professor was named the 2026 Lahoma Adams Buford Peace Award recipient for research and advocacy work supporting foster youth, individuals with disabilities, and justice‑involved populations.

A reentry simulation helped participants experience the challenges of life after incarceration, highlighting barriers faced by justice‑involved individuals and emphasizing the importance of empathy, advocacy, and community support.

Alaina has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and service, maintaining a 3.7 GPA while volunteering with Jeremiah's Garden, Table of Grace, and the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. Selected to apply to the Social Work Professional Program a semester early, she continues to grow her passion for making a meaningful impact in her community.

Christina is committed to using both education and lived experience to support individuals and families facing adversity. In Fall 2025, she earned placement on the President’s List, reflecting her dedication to academic excellence while balancing the responsibilities of school, work, and family.
