Biography

Bio: Vanessa L. Jones, DSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Doctor of Social Work with extensive experience in clinical practice and supervision. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, her Master of Social Work from Columbia University, and her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Alabama. Dr. Jones has been a social worker for 19 years and worked primarily with incarcerated men providing a broad range of mental health services—including crisis intervention and individual therapy—and supervised unlicensed social workers for a decade. She also served as an adjunct lecturer at California State University, Monterey Bay, for three years.

Professional focus/interests: Dr. Jones’ professional interests are in adult mental health, with a focus on managing anxiety.  She is passionate about providing robust clinical supervision to unlicensed social workers, and providing culturally relevant care, in particular with the incarcerated male population.  Her research interests focus on three key areas: social workers’ exposure to workplace trauma, the importance of robust clinical supervision, and the emotional well-being of incarcerated men.
