Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective #1:

Participants will understand the protective role of faith and be able to explain how spirituality and faith communities serve as protective factors against suicide by fostering hope, meaning, and social connectedness.

Learning Objective #2: 

Participants will be able to identify key warning signs of suicidal ideation and describe how social workers and faith leaders can partner to provide timely support and referrals.

Learning Objective #3:

Participants will leave with practical tools, resources, and next steps to integrate faith-sensitive approaches into their professional practice when working with individuals and families impacted by suicide risk.

A social worker can apply this knowledge by recognizing the protective role of faith in fostering hope and connection, identifying warning signs of suicide while collaborating with faith leaders for support and referral, and integrating faith-sensitive tools and resources into practice to better serve individuals and families at risk.

About the Speaker:
Ms. LaWanda VanHorn-Rossell will be presenting on suicide prevention to prepare for Suicide Awareness Month in September. She is the Community Engagement and Partnerships Coordinator at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Medical Center.
