Bio

Ms. Melody Platt is a Licensed Master Social Worker who received full scholarships to attend the Joint Master of Social Work Program between The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University – a school ranked among the top ten public HBCUs.

As part of a research team, Ms. Platt has co-authored publications for the Children and Youth Services Review and the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention. Ongoing research interests include a desired focus on matters of racial and social justice, as well as disparities in health, services, and social policies.

Since obtaining her MSW degree, Ms. Platt has worked with a diverse range of populations and needs within a variety of community settings, including  – prevention in community mental health, food insecurity amongst older adults, and mental health counseling in the university environment. Ms. Platt now serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of North Alabama.

Ms. Platt is also active in her local community of Florence AL, through the Children’s Policy Council and as Treasurer of the Lauderdale County SPAN Advisory Board.
