Bio
Dr. Amie Brunson is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and obtained her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Alabama in 2022. She also received her Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2012 and a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the University of South Carolina in 2005.
Dr. Brunson possesses a wealth of knowledge related to her years working within County Government. Within those roles, she has extensive experience in program planning, development, resource allocation, management, policies, and procedures.
Dr. Brunson possesses a vast array of clinical social work practice experience that include hospice, geriatrics, primary care practice, pediatric case management, community health social work, managed care case management, discharge planning, facilitation of caregiver support groups along with caregiver education programs related to Alzheimer’s and Dementia related diseases.
Dr. Brunson possesses a passion and a heart for people. This passion is the driving force behind her research centered around health disparities within underserved populations. Her work is titled “Exploring the Provisions in Medical Social Work Settings for Those Living with Diabetes: A Systematic Review.” This work is incredibly timely as it puts forth a way for key stakeholders involved in the care of those living with diabetes to come together for more efficient and informed care.
Dr. Bruson currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama School of Social Work. Dr. Brunson plans to continue research on health disparities with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s and Dementia related diseases, hospice and palliative care.
