Dr. M. Sebrena Jackson’s work with the Council on Social Work Education continues to grow.
After completing a year in CSWE’s Program Director Academy 2019-20 cohort, Jackson, MSW program director for the University of Alabama School of Social Work, has been appointed to the CSWE Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education. Jackson’s three-year term began July 1.
The Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education is a council of the Commission on Diversity and Social and Economic Justice. The Council is responsible for the development of educational resources relevant to women’s issues within social work education. The Council works to eliminate all procedures within academia that hinder the full participation of women, makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on all matters of policy, and initiates and coordinates programs and activities related to women in social work education.
Jackson is “really excited” about her selection to the Council because it “signifies the building of my national reputation as a social work educator.”
“Serving on the Council gives me the opportunity to engage nationally with others who are developing educational resources relevant to women’s issues in social work education,” Jackson said. “The three-year term will allow me to connect with other social work educators from around the country.”
Jackson joined the UA School of Social Work in August 2016. Prior to leading UA’s MSW program, Jackson directed the BSW program and MSW field program at Walden University.
Jackson is also the director and founder of the National Social Work Enrichment Program, a six-week pre-college summer program for youth transitioning from foster care. NSEP is designed to inspire youth to graduate high school and enroll in college.
