Established by the School of Social Work, the Howard B. Gundy Award is given to a faculty member, staff member, student or alum in recognition and appreciation of their distinguished service to the School of Social Work and to the profession of social work. This award is given at the discretion of the School.
The award is named for Dr. Howard B. Gundy, the first dean of The University of Alabama School of Social Work. He previously served as first director and first dean of the Syracuse University School of Social Work and later went to Sacramento State College (California) as the first Dean of the Social Work program. Dr. Gundy also served The University of Alabama as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting President.
The deadline for School of Social Work students, faculty and staff to nominate a faculty member for the award is Monday, March 18th.
The Gundy Award recipient will be announced during the School of Social Work’s annual spring awards ceremony in May.
Eligibility
- Nominee must be a student, alum, faculty or staff member of the School of Social Work.
Criteria
- Nominee must have demonstrated distinguished service to the School and profession of social work.
Nomination Process
A committee comprised of three faculty members is convened by the Dean. When this award is given, the committee will make a call for nominations.
