Bio

Haley H. Beech is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Alabama, School of Social Work, and a licensed master social worker. Her research focuses on the intersection of maternal health and violence against women, including intimate partner violence and obstetric violence, and global social work while using an intersectional feminist approach. She is committed to community-based research with a focus on cultural humility, social justice, and addressing power, privilege, and oppression. She is also passionate about social work education and creating spaces where students can learn and unlearn. Haley received her undergraduate degree in sociology from Samford University in 2009 and her MSW for the University of Alabama, School of Social Work in 2013. After graduating, Haley moved to Baltimore, Maryland and spent several years practicing international social work as a healthcare case worker with refugee populations at the International Rescue Committee and a case manager for cross border child welfare cases at International Social Service-USA Branch. Haley has also completed a certificate in global health studies from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, School of Public Health. She is a passionate social worker, researcher, educator, advocate, poet, and lifelong learner. She is committed to promoting the values of social justice, dignity and worth of a person, and right to self-determination in all areas of her work.
