Background and professional experience
Melanie (JaeHee) Chung-Sherman, LCSW-S, PLLC (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker and TSBSWE-Board approved clinical supervisor through the State of Texas. She is the Regional 3 Representative for the NASW-Texas Board of Directors from 2019-2022. She is a Certified Theraplay Practitioner, IAEDP CEDS supervisee & member, and EMDR trained clinician. Melanie is also the founder and owner of a private practice in North Dallas where she specializes in working with predominantly BIPOC-identified clients and transracial adult adopted individuals who have experienced complex trauma. She is a Clinical Manager for a nationwide eating disorder clinic in the south-central region. She has worked in the field of clinical practitioner and supervisor, child welfare, mental health, university counseling, medical social work, and as an adjunct professor of Social Work. Her passion includes education and training others to elevate the voices of the marginalized and oppressed groups, particularly women/femme of color and adoptees, to combat mental health stigma, address power-based violence, and fight systemic oppression and discrimination.
For her Capstone Project, JaeHee Chung-Sherman plans to address BIPOC racial development identity of transracially adopted adults placed into predominantly white family systems who live in the United States and their experiences within the counseling room.
