Why Earn a Degree in Social Work

A degree in social work prepares students for professional social work practice, a growing and dynamic profession in which you promote the well-being of individuals, groups, and communities. Social workers are employed by hospitals, schools, child welfare agencies, criminal justice settings, advocacy organizations, organizations that serve veterans and active duty military, mental health service providers, and more. The degree also provides an excellent foundation in problem-solving, communication, and inter-professional collaboration, skills which are valued by many professions and graduate degree programs. Learn more reasons to study social work.

We encourage prospective students to visit the School of Social Work on the beautiful campus of The University of Alabama. Campus visits are a great opportunity to see what it’s like to be a student at the UA School of Social Work. We invite you to come see why our faculty members are deeply committed to teaching, research and ensuring our students become global leaders in the field of social work.

Financial Aid, Scholarships and Tuition

We believe students from all economic backgrounds should have the opportunity to obtain a degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. The University of Alabama and the School of Social Work offers scholarships, grants, loans and work-study options that help students defray some of the costs associated with earning a college degree.
