The Care Heroes Project
Dr. Ellen Brown
Nursing Scientist and Project Co-leader
Nicole co-leads the Care Heroes project and studies with Dr. Ellen Brown, Associate Professor within the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Florida International University (FIU). She is also the Erica Wertheim Zohar Chair in Community Mental Health. Together, Nicole and Ellen lead a team of researchers in Florida and Alabama to develop and test technologies that support people with dementia and their families. Dr. Peter Clarke
Computer Scientist
Dr. Peter Clarke is an Associate Professor within the Knight Foundation School of Computer Science and Engineering at FIU. Peter plays a leadership role for the computer science team members for the Care Heroes Project. His areas of expertise include software testing, software metrics, model-driven software development, domain-specific modeling languages and computer science education. Dr. Vagelis Hristidis
Computer Scientist, Chatbot Developer
Vagelis Hristidis is a Professor of computer science at the University of California-Riverside. His area of expertise is databases systems and information retrieval. Vagelis also has expertise in developing and testing chatbots for health care and is the owner of the chatbot development company Smartbot 360. Dr. Zhe Jiang
Dr. Jiang is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering (CISE) at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Minnesota in 2016 and his B.E. from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2010. He was an assistant professor in computer science at the University of Alabama from 2016 to 2021. His lab’s mission is to advance AI and machine learning foundations inspired by interdisciplinary applications (Earth sciences, smart cities, biomedicine, public health, precision agriculture). His research results have been published in top AI and Data Science venues, including KDD, ICDM, AAAI, VLDB, ACMGIS, TKDE. Dr. Jiang received the NSF CISE CRII award in 2019 and Microsoft AI for Earth award in 2021. His research has been sponsored by multiple federal agencies (NSF, UCAR, USGS, NOAA, UCAR) and industry companies. (His homepage: www.jiangteam.org).
