How do I get my PIN cleared for registration?
BSW students are required to meet with an advisor each semester to be cleared for registration.
How do I find my advisor?
Current BSW students can locate the name of their assigned advisor on their Degree Works Worksheet. Advising assignments are made approximately 2-3 weeks after the start of the fall and spring semesters.
Who do I need to contact for a permit into a social work class?
To request SW course permits, students may contact the School’s Student Services Program Manager, Kayla Johnson, at (205) 348-5897 or kjboucher@ua.edu.
Who do I contact if I have questions about how to register?
Students can call the Office of the Registrar at (205) 348-2020 for assistance with registration.
What do I need to do if I am thinking of dropping a class?
Be aware of the last day to drop a class, which can be found on the Academic Calendar. Before dropping a course, it is important to get in contact with your professor to check your current grade and to ask if it is possible for you to pass the class. It is also important to contact your advisor to discuss any changes to your schedule, as some changes could alter your expected graduation date. If dropping a class will mean that you are no longer a full-time student, you may need to check with funding sources, insurance providers, etc.
What do I need to do if I am thinking of withdrawing from semester?
Be aware of the last day to withdraw from the semester, which can be found on the Academic Calendar at https://registrar.ua.edu/. If you plan to request a medical withdrawal, review the Medical Withdrawal Policy, which can be found by searching “Medical Withdrawal” in the Undergraduate Catalog at https://catalog.ua.edu/. You should also check with all funding sources, insurance providers, etc. to be aware of any impact from withdrawing from the semester.

Who do I contact for information regarding scholarships?
For School of Social Work scholarships, information and deadlines are announced through email and are posted on social media. We announce opportunities as they become available to us, but students are advised to search for scholarships that might be available to them; we cannot post information about every scholarship.
School of Social Work scholarships are posted on the UA Scholarship System. BSW students can apply for scholarships through the UA system by logging into myBama, clicking on the Admissions & Scholarships tab on the left column, selecting Alabama Scholarship Award Manager under All Graduate/Undergraduate Students, and entering the required information.
- Scholarship applications for the BSW program are due February 10 each year.
- Recipients will be notified around the end of April.

What classes are prerequisites for the BSW Professional Program?
Students must earn a grade of C- or higher in the following courses prior to entering the BSW Professional Program:
- SW 100 or SW 105
- SW 200 or SW 205
- SW 351 or SW 355
- SW 101
- SW 310
- BSC with a lab
- PY 101 or PY 105
- SOC 101
- MATH 100 or placement into core Math
Students should have completed 54 hours towards the degree upon entering the professional program.

When do I apply for the professional program?
Students who plan to begin the BSW Professional Program in the fall semester should apply by Feb. 15 of the preceding spring semester. Students who plan to begin the BSW Professional Program in the spring semester should apply by Sept. 15 of the preceding fall semester.
Note: The sequence that begins in the spring includes a minimum of 9 hours of summer coursework and is conditional upon sufficient enrollment.
